Teaching students to use technology will benefit them throughout their academic career. Technology not only enhances learning, but also helps students to explore and understand the world around them. In order for technology to be effective in today's education system, it needs to be intelligently integrated into a rich and meaningful curriculum.

Our curriculum at Shlenker is full of fun, excitement, and thought-provoking activities.

Don't forget to check out our new Media page. Student projects will be available to view and hear on the media page.

PreK-4

Students were introduced to Microsoft Paint. Using the Paint program, students will connect dots to create cute and colorful shapes.

We will also explore different activities using the Promethean boards in their classrooms. Students will use our graphing program, Graphers, to sort and create class graphs.

Students will be enjoying more creative activities this term using Paint, Graphers, and Kidspiration. Kidspiration is a webbing program that can be used to create a multitude of inspiring lessons.

Activities to look forward to are: No Place for Hate, sorting, counting, Chanukah, seasons and so much more.

Students will also enjoy software programs such as: AtoZap!, Sammy’s Science House, Millie’s Math House, Bailey’s Book House, Starfall and Davka’s Jewish Holiday Funhouse.

Kindergarten

Students will review Microsoft Paint, Graphers, and Kidspiration. Using different shapes in Paint, students will create houses, people, and plants.

Paint is a drawing program that is used to create shapes, pictures, and holiday activities.

We will also explore different activities using the Promethean boards in their classrooms. Students will be introduced to Graphers, our graphing program to create a class graph. We'll sort and graph cookies, pizza, and colors.

Kidspiration is a webbing program that students use to create fun learning webs as well as brainstorming activities and writings.

More creative and stimulating activities are planned such as: No Place for Hate, sorting, counting, Chanukah, paint by numbers, seasons, Insects, adding and so much more.

First Grade

First graders were introduced to our keyboarding program Type to Learn Jr. Students were shown the proper etiquette for finger position and posture.

We will be spending time in the classroom integrating class curriculum with technology projects.

Students will be introduced to Microsoft Word by creating their names in WordArt and shapes in Autoshapes. They will enjoy coloring them with Fill Effects and turning them into 3D shapes.

We will review these steps again when students are introduced to Microsoft Power Point. Students will create a slide presentation with added animation (movements) and sounds.

Other programs students will be working with are: Power Point, Type to Learn Jr., and some web-based programs like Torahtots.com, McGruff.com, and Starfall.com.

Second Grade

Keyboarding is consistent throughout our curriculum program for all grades especially in second grade. We spend a lot of time working on finger placement and posture. Type to Learn Jr. is still our choice for second grade.

We will be spending time in the classroom integrating class curriculum with technology projects. Students will be introduced to our Danas (small word processing computers) to create class writings.

Students will enjoy working in Kidspiration and Graphers before it's time to review Microsoft Word. They will create bookmarks with their names in WordArt and shapes in Autoshapes. They will love coloring them with Fill Effects and turning them into 3D shapes as well as using shadows to enhance the look.

We'll review these steps again when we work in Microsoft Power Point. Students will create a five slide presentation that integrates with their classroom discussions on clouds. Students will work simultaneously between two programs, Microsoft Word and Power Point.

We will also explore Internet Safety and Cyberbullying.

Other programs students will work with are: Power Point, Type to Learn Jr., and some web-based programs like Torahtots.com, McGruff.com, Colgate.com, Enchanted Learning.com, Scholastic.com, Fossweb.com, and Starfall.com.

Third Grade

Because keyboarding is consistent throughout our curriculum program, third graders will be prepared for the challenges of typing their work. Reports, poetry, and letter writing is typed in Microsoft Word either in the computer lab, the classroom computers, or with our “COW” (cart on wheels). Students have access to PC laptops or Mac notebooks to complete class assignments. Students will be instructed on the dos and don’ts of using the laptops, flash drives, and our wireless network system. They will also be reminded of our ‘Acceptable Use Policy for Students’.

We will also explore Internet Safety and Cyberbullying.

Students will use Kidspiration, Word, Power Point, and Publisher to produce interesting projects that show case their knowledge on class subjects as well as their computer skills.

Activities to look forward to are: classroom maps, graphs, poems, animal research, and webbings. Students will use web-based resources like: Enchantedlearning.com, Worldbook.com, Encyclopedia Britannica online.com, and Wikipedia.com for research projects.

Fourth Grade

Fourth graders work on building their keyboarding skills with the programs like Mavis Beacon and Typershark.

We will be spending time in the classroom integrating class curriculum with technology projects such as digital storytelling.

Students will use web-based resources for their research project like: Worldbook.com, Encyclopedia Britannica online.com, and Wikipedia.com. Internet Safety and Cyberbullying will be discussed. Students have access to PC laptops or Mac notebooks to complete class assignments. Students will be instructed on the dos and don’ts of using the laptops, flash drives, and our wireless network system. They are also reminded of our ‘Acceptable Use Policy for Students’.

Activities to look forward to are: digital photography, Texas research, and an introduction to Photostory 3.

Fifth Grade

Fifth graders work on building their keyboarding skills with the programs like Mavis Beacon and Typershark.

We will spend time in the classroom integrating class curriculum with technology tools such as digital storytelling and CPS (Classroom Performance System).
